Mocktober Fest
Once upon a time….
One Thursday, windy night in mid April, we were sitting down and drinking beer with Vern,
Nikolai and others and talking, dreaming about warmer weather.

Suddenly Vern said: "Barb it is too long to wait for the end of September for Oktoberfest!
Let’s do something during summer."
That was the day that Mocktober fest idea was conceived. About a week later we sat down
and talked about it in detail: what to serve, who is arranging what.
We chose May 31st
for the “HAPPENED” day.

We rented the tent, hired Carol and the Boys to play and sing jazz and blues.
Boys were playing and Carol was singing. People were amazed that someone can have such
a beautiful voice.

We cooked polish sausages. I talked Stan, in Chicago, into making fresh polish sausages
in smaller links than usual for grilling. I still think, that this sausage would be better
just steamed, although grilled wasn’t so bad.

We smoked pork with apple wood for the sliders, which were just melting in your mouth.
We made big batch of apple barbeque sauce and when I looked it was gone, you guys inhaled
this sauce, must have been good.

We had Polish, Russian, German, Latvian and other beers to drink.

Vern cooked lingenberry and veal spatzle. He cooked them outside so the smell of roasted
garlic was lingering all around the building in and out. YUMM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people couldn’t have enough and were coming for more and more. Oink!,
But when something is so good what can you do? Get some more!

We had cookies, rice crispy treats with chocolate and chrusciki or faworki.
This depends which region of Poland you are from. You say faworki to the north and west,
south and east will say chrusciki.

So we had fun!!!!!

There were new faces and old faces, but everybody talked to each other,
singing with Carol, cheering, eating and drinking.

We would like to thank all of you for coming and spending Saturday evening with your
friends, family and us. We will do it again next year.

And to all our friends who volunteered to help - THANK YOU. Without your help we will
never have managed to do it.
