Romania
Wine
JIDVEI
The Tarnave region is situated in the cool plateau of Transylvania. The best vine growing area lies between the region’s two main rivers. Here the particular microclimate is influenced by the rivers coupled with the region’s overall high altitude. It is a cool climate, ideal for fruity white wines with good acidity, which accounts for almost all the region’s production. The vine growers’ skillfulness, based on a long tradition and encouraged by the climatic conditions, is shown in the production of excellent dry, sweet, and flavoured wines, such as Feteasca Regala, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Dry Muscat, and Dry Riesling.
Dry Muscat
Dry Muscat is an energetic but delicate wine, discrete but corrupting. The predominant flavour of vineyard in autumn is felt together with a discret scent of lemmon flowers . The noble yet athletic taste makes this dry, refreshing wine a great aristocrate, just ready to be served with pies and stews.
Dry Riesling & Feteasca Regala
Riesling and Feteasca Regala is a local vine variety, with a special place among dry white wines for its freshness, smoothness and fruity flavor. It has a remarkable balance of components. Its acidity, slighty higher than in other Jidvei wines, makes it lively and attractive to numerous consumers, from Romania to Japan.
Gewurztraminer
Jidvei Gewürztraminer shares the same distinct aromatic character of flowery and spicy perfumes as Muscat. This trait separates it from the most of the rest of the world's wines and makes it easy to identify. Experts usually suggest drinking Gewürztraminer wines soon after bottling to take best advantage of their fresh flavor. Gewürztraminer makes an excellent sipping wine and is a nice companion to hors d'oeuvres.
Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is a dry wine that has always been the fame of Jidvei, both in Romania and abroad. It has a herbal, aromatic and fruity flavor. It is a lively wine, mildly acid, extremely palatable and round. After appropriate aging, the bouquet and flavor become melon-like. Award of Excellence Section: SAUVIGNON BLANC International Wine Center at Wine America ‘93

DEALU MARE
The name means the Big Hill occupies an area of 360 sq miles, on the slopes of the sub-Carpathian mountains to the South of the main range. The South-facing slopes, coupled with the overall warm climate of the region, give ideal conditions for the production of rich, soft red wines without excessive tannins. Dealu Mare is considered to be the best area of Romania for the cultivation of red grapes, the most important wines being Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
Transylvania Tohaner wines are produced by the Tohani Winery in the Dealu Mare region, south of the Carpathian Alps in Romania.
Merlot
Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing. Red garnet dry wine with a taste of forest wild fruit, while also round, elegant, discreet, tannic, reminding of roasted nuts. Recommended to be served with fresh cheese, spaghetti and dry salami.
Pinot Noir
Clear and vibrant, the initial aromas of this wine are of raspberries and baking spices and Bing cherries but evolve to the more indiginous aromas of clean earth, minerals, smoke, red currants. The mouth fulfills the expectations promised by the aromatics and has a nice texture, good acidity on the finish.

MURFATLAR
Is a region with 10.000 ha under vine, lying between 7 and 9 miles west of the Black Sea coast. It is a warm region with around 300 days of sunshine each year. However, the sun is tempered by cool winds from the Black Sea, which extends the growing period by ten to fifteen days. This, along with the area’s long warm autums, and the possibility that noble rot may develop in favorable years means that the area is ideally suited to the production of sweet desert wines, such as late harvest Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel, and Pinot Gris. Soft, rich red wines are also produced, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot being the most important.
Muscat
Murfatlar Muscat is an unadulterated and pure example of the Muscat grape. It has an attractive golden color with good clarity and a light viscosity in the glass. The aroma is reminiscent of golden raisins, peach nectar and lanolin. The peach and raisin aromas carry over to the full flavor. The finish is sweet and warm with good length and presence.Serve Murfatlar Muscat with fruit such as grapes and citrus, especially in puddings and custards.
Murfatlar Muscat matches equally well with many different dishes including simple, light meats such as deli meats, fish, pork and fowl. Try Murfatlar Muscat with Asian dishes, or perhaps try it with dishes in richer sauces such as Goulash.
Chardonnay
Murfatlar Chardonnay is a brilliant strawgold color in the glass with excellent clarityand reflective qualities. Aromas and flavors of figs and pears are soft on the palate due to a partial malo-lactic fermentation and subtle residual sugars. There is good fruit, balance and structure which carries through to a clean finish. Good acidity and a subtle trace of residual sugar make Murfatlar Chardonnay Perfect as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to lighter dishes. Try Murfatlar Chardonnay with simple, fresh cheeses such as danish emmenthaler, mustard gouda, aged provolone or fresh Mozzarella di Buffala. Serve Murfatlar Chardonnay slightly chilled for maximum enjoyment.
Savignon Blanc
One of the white wine varieties, Sauvignon Blanc was introduced in Romania around the late nineteenth century from France. Its color varies from ivory to yellowish to green-yellow. When young and fresh it has an almost spicily penetrating aroma, variously described as gooseberry or blackcurrant leaf. With a bit of age it becomes more musk like, soft, grassy, and fruity. With current cold, slow fermentation methods maintaining a temperature of 10-15 Celsius, the Sauvignon Blanc preserves a lot of carbon dioxide and hence retains the volatile aromatic elements. Also at colder temperatures, yeast produces a greater variety of primary fruity aromas, thus the crisp, fruity aromas of this variety of wine. It is best being served cold with chicken or seafood meals.
Pinot Gris
Pinot Gris is an authentic representative of the natural sweet wines, holding the record of sugar accumulation. The wines produced in the assistance of the appearance of the noble mold are unparalleled. It’s colors ranging from straw-yellow to amber after advanced ageing, its characteristic taste, the overall harmony of its composition which make it velvety and unctuous, make Pinot Gris the champion of the Murfatlar sweet wines, rivaling with the most renowned world wines. It is recommended to be served at a temperature between 40 to 50 degrees with special dishes (foie gras, fruit pies) and all kinds of desserts, being a successful conclusion to an elegant feast.
Pinot Noir

The vineyards of Murfatlar, on the Black sea, happen to have what Pinot Noir requires. The soil is hardly soil at all. It is really more gravel and rock, made mostly of limestone. While this may not sound like a very good place for, say, tomatoes; it is exactly what makes for excellent Pinot Noir grapes. The grape vines must stretch and struggle to acquire the nutrients and water they need to grow, and in this the flavor and structure develops, long before the grapes are crushed. Murfatlar's Pinot Noir appears transparent reddish/rose in the glass with excellent luminosity. The aroma is of ripe strawberries, red berries and strangely enough, saffron. There is some aspect of terroir or "sense of place" with Murfatlar Pinot Noir. The wine has excellent fruit, with soft strawberry and red fruit flavors which become more structured and angular towards the crisp finish. There are many Pinot Noirs from France and California, at five to ten times the price,
that are not as well made.Serve Murfatlar Pinot Noir with dishes such as pork roast, squash, antipasto, fowl,
poached salmon or simple cold-cuts. Murfatlar Pinot Noir pairs well with cheeses such as Muenster, Caerphilly, Swiss, Appenz.ller, Spanish Manchego, or Camembert
.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Enjoy Murfatlar Cabernet Sauvignon with hearty meals or dishes with rich sauces. Most stews, steak, hamburger, meatloaf or duck would be a particularly good marriage of flavors. Murfatlar Cabernet Sauvignon would also go well with simple, classic cheeses such as Cheddar, Jarlsberg, Havarti, Gouda or Brie. Serve Murfatlar Cabernet Sauvignon at room temperature.
Merlot
A bright red wine, brisk, lively, with a characteristic floral bouquet, a partner alongside Cabernet Sauvignon of the great Bordeaux wines, harmoniously built, with a good ageing evolution, particularly when oak caskets are used. Specific organoleptic composition, with a mild tannin content, this wine has a fruity taste of blackcurrant. It’s recommended serving temperature is between 60 to 65 degrees. It may be accompanied by rich dishes, venison, specialties of grilled meat, lamb, smoked foods, as well as high quality cheeses towards the end of the meal.
Poem to Ovidiu
Poem to  Ovidiu is a special, liquored, oxidized wine, with a particular personality, obtained out of the most valuable breeds grown in the vineyards of Murfatlar. It stands out by a complex, remarkable ageing bouquet, but also by its silkiness and buttery touch. The profundity of its colour and its rich aroma are due to the storage in small oak barrels for several years. Its bouquet is enriched by the fresh flavor of fruits and the balanced sweetness and acidity of the new wines it blends with. poem to  Ovidiu is a deep-golden wine that brings together the eldest wines of Murfatlar, matured in small oak barrels of 300, 400 and 500 liters. This liquored wine is to be served chilled, 4-6 °Celsius, in small glasses of 100 ml, with a narrow rim, as an aperitif or after the meal, with the favorite dessert or fine cheeses.
Pinot Grigio
Dry white wine, rich in fruit flavors, and remarkable for its inspiring liveliness. When it is young, its color is straw yellow, and turns deep amber gold when aged. This Pinot Grigio has a fine balance between its fruit acidity and its intense aroma. Recommended to be served at 55 degree ( F ).
Pinot Noir
Is a noble wine, very hard to imitate by other red wines. This is a fruity wine. Its tannins contend is low, and therefore does not require waiting long for ageing. Layers of complex aromas with rich flavors of blackberries, black cherry, toasty oak, hints of dried rose petals and earthy spice. A silky texture and velvety mouth feel are framed by balanced acidity. Ripe, lush flavors retain their grace and finesse throughout the persistent finish.

Cotnari
The province is renowned for its local wines whose names actually derive from the regions they belong to. They hold pride of place in the world vintage. The Cotnari vineyard is relating to the great Romanian prince Stephen the Great (15th century). Besides a beautiful church that can be visited today, Stephen the Great commissioned bridges and paved roads for wine transport as well as deep cellars to keep it nice. The leading wine of the vineyard is Grasa de Cotnari. It was described as having the bitterest taste of a nutshell and a strong flavor; it is an excellent wine, whose aging enhances its noble qualities and draws it near perfection. In 1900, at the World Exhibition in Paris, Grasa de Cotnari was awarded a golden medal and has since acquired the name of "Romania's Bloom".
P
roduces Romania’s finest wine: a sweet white from indigenous grapes which have been affected by noble rot. The grapes used to make Cotnari are Grasa, Tamaioasa, Francusa, and Feteasca Alba. Cotnari is a hilly area with a warm microclimate, which is suited to the development of noble rot and allows picking to continue as far into the year as November. The renown and unique Busuioaca de Bohotin comes from a small region of this area.
Grassa de Cotnari
The pearl of Moldavia and Romania has been grown for many centuries. It is picked when the grapes shrivel and its fragrance is out of this world. With a green-yellow color when it's young and then golden like the leafs in the autumn, with the taste of nut kernel and a shade of raisin and almond kernel at which it adds the flavor of noble rot.
Busuioaca de Bohotin
Sweet Basil of Bohotin (Busuioaca de Bohotin) is a light red (Rose) demy sweet wine. This aromatic wine has a golden rusty color, unidentifiable with any other wines, having been produced with one of the oldest original Romanian grape varieties. Its flavor is unique too, resembling honeysuckle and ripe juicy peaches with a hint of roses, having a perfect harmony of sugar, alcohol and acidity. The sweet taste sometimes has a barely perceptible almond like bitter aroma.

Beer

Timisoreana
With its clean bright color and consistent foam Timisoreana is a great tasting easy-to-drink beer.
Nice clean pale pilsner . Clean aroma . Rolling CO2 visble.  Its pilsner bite is much less than other beers  that have been classified as pilsner. Smooth and rather refreshing, pleasantly surprised. Good amount of pleasing CO2  Perhaps this is what pilsner really should taste like.

Super Brew 15 - Barley Wine
15 worthy beers competed at the famed Martens Brewery for the honor to be exported to the US.  The last, 15th entry came out the winner. Super Brew 15  was selected for its exquisite equilibrium of taste, the result of a harmonious combination of specific beer components and special double fermentation process.  This unique beer, known in the Anglo-Saxon world since the eleventh century as Barley Wine, has been prized by true connoisseurs for the past millennium.
